4 Nigerian Politicians Who Became Sick While Standing Trial Over Corruption Allegations
It seems Nigerian politicians falling sick while standing trial over corruption is the new trend and the order of the day. Still fresh in our memory is the moment Olisa Metuh arrived in court on a stretcher.
We have a compiled a list of politicians who have had one ailment or another during the course of their trial.
1.Femi Fani-Kayode (Ex-Aviation Minister)
The Ex-Aviation Minister is cuurently standing trial for N4.9 billion money laundering charge.
Mr Fani-Kayode is standing trial alongside a former Finance Minister, Nenadi Usman and two others, Danjuma Yusuf and Joint Trust Dimensions Nigeria Limited, on a 17-count charge of alleged fraud of N4.9billion.
His counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Norrison Quakers told Justice Rilwan Aikawa on January 31st 2018 that Fani-Kayode was absent from court because he was suffering from a heart-related ailment.

Mrs. Diezani was reported to be battling with cancer in the United Kingdom despite being said to be facing money laundering charges.

3.Olisa Metuh (Ex PDP Spokesman)
Former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, arrived the Federal High Court, Abuja, on February 5, venue of his ongoing corruption trial on a stretcher after being taken down from an ambulance.
Mr. Metuh’s lawyer had, at the last adjourned date, informed the court presided by Justice Okon Abang that his client was at the Nnamdi Azikiwe specialist hospital for treatment on spinal cord complications.
On seeing the Metuh in court on a stretcher, on Monday morning, Justice Abang adjourned the matter till March 15.
4.Nenadi Usman (Ex-Finance Minister)
A former minister of finance, Nenadi Usman, pleaded with a federal court in February 2017 that she needed to travel abroad as a result of her failing health due to breast cancer.
Mrs. Usman is facing a 17-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, and money laundering alongside Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister; Danjuma Mohammed; and Jointrust Dimensions Nigeria Limited amounting to over N38 billion.
She was granted permission to travel to the United States of America for treatment on December 2017.
