5 Things You Didn’t About Notorious Militant Behind The Rivers Killings, Don Waney
Ever since Sunday, January 7, when the news filtered in that Igwedibia Johnson otherwise known as Don Waney, the notorious kidnapper/militant behind the gruesome killings that ushered in the new year in Rivers State was killed by the combined efforts of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Security, the social media space has been agog.
It was in the early hours of January 1, 2018 when gunmen opened fire on at least 20 people returning from Cross-Over Service, the outrage that followed the killings intensified with the attacks carried out by Fulani Herdsmen on Benue residents.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike placed a bounty of N200m for the whereabouts of Don Waney but apparently, the Nigerian Army and DSS had other ideas as they laid siege on an apartment in Enugu State where the dreaded militant had gone to hide after the attack in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He was killed alongside two of his gang members.
Below are a few things about the slain militant;
1.) Don Waney reportedly embraced the amnesty programme of Governor Nyesom Wike in 2016 when he laid down his arms and military uniforms but not all as he still terrorrised Omuku till his death.
2.) He was also the leader of the notorious Islanders Cult responsible for beheadings.
3.) The slain militant was to be recognised as the Paramount Ruler of Aligwu by Wike until he met his waterloo after being linked with the killing of worshipers on New Year’s day.
4.) His mansion at Omoku was raided by the Army in November 2017 and ten human heads and decomposing bodies were found.
5.) Lastly, he was allegedly perfecting plans to carry out another attack on Omoku before he was felled by bullets from the Nigerian security agents.
