Flash Fiction: Small Fates (Episode 1)

by

“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong” – Ecclesiastes 9:11Chike was VERY late for work, and he wasn’t in the mood to deal with disciplinary action at the office, especially as he was on probation already.

So it is quite understandable that he shoved his wife aside as she was struggling to get into her shoes, leaving her behind as he dashed for the door.

Once in the car, he fired up the engine and drove like he was being chased by a thousand wild demons. He weaved in and out of traffic, and once the road cleared, he drove at breakneck speed to his office.

He heaved a sigh of relief as he sharply turned into the carpark at 7:55 am, thankful that he wasn’t late after all.

With one more pump of his foot, he ushered the car into the lot, slamming hard at a pillar he hadn’t noticed.

And this was where the journey ended.
