House Of Reps Slam Presidency For Rapport With Sacked SGF
Some members of the House of Representatives have called out the Federal Government and a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, over the latter’s comments about his sack (If you missed that, READ HERE)
The lawmakers berated Lawal and the government over its anti-graft war. The Chairman, House Committee on Capital Market and Institutions, Mr. Tajudeen Yusuf, described the government’s corruption fight as a “media show.”
He noted that so long as the fight remained “selective” or the government celebrated cases that were filed in court long before it came into power, the country would get nowhere.
The Chairman, House Committee on Interior, Mr. Adams Jagaba, said, “The fight against corruption is no longer serious. So, anybody can say anything.
The former SGF even knows that there are so many untouchable corrupt persons in the government today.
“What they are doing is just window-dressing because of 2019 elections.
“There are people more corrupt than Babachir Lawal in this government, but there is nothing being done about their case. If you want to fight corruption, be total.”
On his part, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Sola Adeyeye, who spoke to one of our correspondents, said Lawal lacked the moral right to blame the Senate for his woes. He also recalled that an independent presidential panel vindicated the lawmakers by also recommending his sacking.
Adeyeye said, “Was the Senate the only panel that indicted Lawal? Did the Vice-President’s panel not interrogate him? What was the recommendation of the Vice-President’s panel?
“So, if two panels that are independent of each other investigated a person and recommended his sacking, why then are you asking me if the investigation by the Senate was fair? He was invited by the Senate, but did he come?
“Some of these issues are simple. Corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of this nation and everybody who is caught makes their own excuses.”
“However, when a man refuses to appear before a properly constituted panel, does that man have the right to blame the panel for coming to a conclusion?”
