Fans convinced Eurovision winner is in the bag after 'legendary' performance

Some Eurovision Song Contest fans are convinced that the 2024 winner is already obvious.

Following Switzerland contestant Nemo’s rendition of The Code at the Semi Finals, many people took to social media to express their disbelief at the singer’s brilliant performance.

The Swiss rapper and singer, 24, who came out last year as nonbinary, performed the catchy queer anthem from atop a spinning platform, athletically navigating the stage while hitting every note.

The Code, which blends opera, pop, rock, and drum and bass, is a powerful song about embracing one’s true identity, a narrative that closely mirrors Nemo’s own journey with their gender identity.

The artist, who’s full name is Nemo Mettler, is already a successful musician in Switzerland. They won four Swiss Music Awards in 2018, including Song of the Year for their hit single Du.

Nemo told The Independent of their Eurovision entry song: ‘There are so many influences in the song. I went to youth opera when I was nine in my hometown, and I think that’s shaped a lot of my work as a musician, hearing those very classical melodies.

‘It’s definitely a performance piece; it’s made for the stage, to keep you on your toes. It’s definitely challenging, but it’s also a lot of fun to sing live because I get to do a lot of things in a short space of time.

‘It’s just fun to show different sides… I love performing because it reminds me of singing back when I was at the opera.’

When asked if they relate to the song, Nemo said: ‘It feels like me and the song are the same, we’re one. It’s amazing to get to perform something you truly feel you are, it makes this experience so much more genuine for me.’

Their passion for the song was obvious to fans, who were blown away by Switzerland’s entry.

X User @tellthefire posted a clip of the performance with the caption: ‘Some people screamed, some people stared with open mouths, some were walking around towards the screens as if they were obsessed, and some of them cried after the performance and mumbled “Eurovision winner” #Eurovision2024.’

@ESC_Ramadan agreed: ‘I think switzerland just won eurovision 2024 #eurovision2024.’

@Escxfav2 wrote: ‘WINNER VIBES this performance is insane #eurovision #eurovision2024.’

Nemo is competing in the second semi-final of the contest against 15 other delegates from countries such as Austria, Greece, Denmark, Latvia, San Marino, Georgia, Malta, and Israel.

Redditor Nsseuc posted the recipe to the social media platform.

“DIY hair mask that will make your hair so, so, so, so, so, so soft and hydrated,” she gushed.

“I did this yesterday and my hair has never been softer, seriously,” she said.

“And when I was rinsing it, I just wanted to run my fingers through my hair forever.”

HOW IT’S DONE

She specified that her curl pattern was 3a — a hair type on the wavier side.

She said she uses “one banana, two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, [and] one tablespoon [of] honey.”

“Optional, I added a tiny bit of jojoba oil and a few sprits of shea moisture honey and manuka spray,” she said.

“[I] don’t think it mattered that much.”

She explained how she prepares the ingredients before applying it to her hair.

“Just blend everything all up or mash them together,” she said.

“I recommend putting on a shower cap to lock in the moisture and for extra heat and protection I usually add a bandana or wrap a T-shirt around it.

“You can use this overnight, or for as long as you want, really.

“I tried to leave mine overnight, but I have insomnia and the smell of the bananas marinating in my hair while trying to sleep was just too much.

I’m a real-life Rapunzel and can even turn my locks into a ‘hair bra’ for my boyfriend – it took 10 years to grow

“So I rinsed it out, but the final results were beautiful.”

THAT’S BANANAS

Several Redditors weighed in on the DIY haircare concoction.

“I stopped after I read ‘banana.’ I once made a DIY hair mask with banana in it but it wasn’t mixed properly,” one said.

“I had bits of banana stuck in my hair that I had to brush out with loads of conditioner. Banana was flying everywhere so I had to clean the shower, too.

“My hair and shower smelled pretty bad afterwards and I couldn’t bring myself to eat bananas for another month.”

“Doesn’t [your] hair smell of bananas even after washing [it] off with shampoo?” another asked.

“Just barely,” the original poster replied. “I only rinsed with water and not shampoo and put conditioner, put the leave in products afterwards.

“I can still sort of smell it, but my other products overpower the smell a little. I’m sure with shampoo you won’t be able to smell it at all.”

“A tip is doing a tea hair wash. Chamomile tea will get it out but replace it with a good smell,” a third chimed in.

“I’ve made one similar but you use banana pumpkin baby food. Then you don’t have to worry about chunks of banana in your hair,” another suggested.

Ben Whittaker REFUSED Fight With Fellow Undefeated British Prospect

Ben Whittaker and Lewis Edmondson’s names have been heavily linked in the last year or so but they will both return to the ring in the next few weeks against separate opponents.

Edmondson’s manager, Billy Joe Saunders, has now revealed that Whittaker turned down the fight with Edmondson despite there being interest from the broadcaster.

“I can understand Sky/behind the scenes clearly interested in making the fight, Saunders told BoxNation, “It was put to Whittaker and he refused.”

“At the end of the day do I blame him? Probably not because the style that Lewis Edmondson brings has beat him previously in the amateurs.”

“Does he really want that sort of fight at this stage of his career? Probably not. I know how good Lewis is, I’ve sparred with him myself.”

Ben Whittaker Returns June 15 In London

Whittaker returns on June 15 in London against the little-known Ezra Arenyeka for the WBA gold belt.

Arenyeka is 12-0, 10 KOs and has put himself in position for the fight after storming a Whittaker press conference in February.

Edmondson faces Joel McIntyre on the Jessica McCaskill-Lauren Price undercard in Cardiff.

NCAA removes cap on official recruiting visits in basketball to deal with unlimited transfers

The NCAA has approved a waiver that will allow men’s and women’s basketball programs to pay for unlimited official recruiting visits to help teams deal with roster depletion caused by transfers, according to a memo obtained Thursday by The Associated Press.

The Athletic first reported the approval of a blanket waiver by the men’s and women’s basketball oversight committees.

Currently, men’s basketball programs are allowed 28 official visits over a rolling two-year period. The number for women’s programs is 24.

The waiver will cover a two-year period, starting Aug. 1, 2023, and run through July 31, 2025. The NCAA Division I Council in June will consider proposed legislation that would lift the limit on official visits in men’s and women’s basketball permanently.

Last month, the NCAA changed its rules to allow all athletes to be immediately eligible to play no matter how many times they transfer — as long as they meet academic requirements. The move came after the association fast-tracked legislation to fall in line with a recent court order.

Several states, including West Virginia, sued the NCAA late last year, challenging rules requiring undergraduate athletes to sit out for a season if they transferred more than once.

With what amounts to unlimited and unrestricted transfers, player movement in basketball has increased and forced programs into a bind created by unusually high levels of roster turnover.

In some cases, coaches are replacing almost an entire team. The scholarship limit in Division I for men’s basketball is 13 and 15 for women’s teams.
