When 35-year-old black mother of four Ajike ‘AJ’ Owens was shot dead by her neighbour Susan Lorincz in Florida in 2023 there was outcry when the killer was not initially arrested and was allowed to return to her home – the scene of the crime.
She argued that she had opened fire in self defence, raising yet more questions about the deeply contested Stand Your Ground Law.
