Jake Paul vs Chavez Jr live: Fight updates and results

Jake Paul calls out AJ and Fury

Jake Paul says he’ll fight anyone in any place but specifically called out Anthony Joshua and Tommy Fury in his post fight interview.

Among his stated intention to win a world title you get the sense that his defeat to Fury still annoys him and that he wants to rectify that loss.

But who knows who Paul’s next opponent will be?

‘Paul not ready for champions’

Julio Chavez Jr admitted that Jake Paul is a ‘good boxer’ but doesn’t think he is ready to fight any current champions.

“I lost the first five round so I tried to win the last few rounds. He’s a good boxer so after four rounds I felt like he tired but he’s a good boxer.

“He’s strong, after the first three or four rounds I felt like I tired him so I don’t think he’s ready for the champions but he’s a good fighter.”

No hints on Paul’s next opponent

Jake Paul gave no hints over who his next opponent might be but admitted he hopes to fight again this year.

He was asked what conversation he had with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr after the fight and replied: “I said ‘great fight, you’re very tough’. He told me that he was very surprised and that I’m a great boxer.

“I’m just getting warmed up to this. I’m staying active, I’m fighting everybody.

“We’ll see. There’s a long line [of opponents]. I’ve got time, I’m 28-years-old. I’ll fight anybody, any place.”

Paul calls out Tommy Fury

Jake Paul’s only professional defeat in his career so far came against Tommy Fury and he would surely like to avenge that loss at some point.

He also took the chance to call out Fury during his post fight interview saying: “I want tougher fighters, I want to be world champion.

“Zurdo looked slow tonight, that’d be easy work too, Badou Jack, I want everybody.

“Anthony Joshua and Tommy [Fury] stop running!”

More reaction from Jake Paul:

“He’s a tough, tough guy. He’s never been stopped and he’s a Mexican warrior. I respect Mexican warriors, I respect Mexico but I’m also a warrior and I came out on top tonight.

“[My performance] was flawless. I think I only got hit 10 times. Really he just survived and I thought I did great.

“Going 10 rounds against a former world champion, whose never been stopped. He’s in there with Canelo, all of these guys and I embarrassed him like that.

Jake Paul wins by unanimous decision!

This isn’t a surprising result.

Jake Paul won most of the rounds as Chavez Jr decided not to throw many punches in the early rounds.

The judges score the fight 99-91, 97-93, 98-92 all in favour of Paul.

Paul shushes the crowd and raises his arm. That’s his 12th professional win.

Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

‘You have to knock him out!’ That’s the advice from Chavez Jr’s corner.

That’s a big ask in only three minutes. Paul sticks to his gameplan of jab and body shot.

Chavez has Paul on the backfoot but he weaves off the ropes and throws a combination to stop that attack.

Twice Chavez pins Paul with that left jab and gets a right to hit the head.

Another big left hook lands right at the end of the round but Paul hangs on.

Chavez takes the round but his best work came way too late.
