National Television Awards 2024 LIVE: All the action from The O2 as Mr Bates vs The Post Office sweeps the board and Ant and Dec win Entertainment Presenter gong for a whopping 23rd year
Britain’s best TV shows will go head-to-head tonight at the National Television Awards with ITV, Netflix and the BBC all competing for honours at London’s O2 Arena.
Presented by comedian Joel Dommett, the night will celebrate the most successful dramas, documentaries, soaps and reality shows on the nation’s screens.
ITV’s Mr Bates vs The Post Office is among the favourites to take home the New Drama prize but faces competition from Netflix hit Baby Reindeer. The ceremony will be shown live on ITV from 8pm.

Bradley Walsh looks stunned as The Chase wins the Daytime award
The ITV game show’s win comes as it marked its 15th anniversary of being on the air.
As he thanked the public for voting, Bradley said: ‘From all of us to all of you, another 15 years of The Chase.’

David Attenborough, 98, wins the Expert award for his BBC show Mammals
The broadcaster and biologist could not attend the ceremony so the award was accepted on his behalf.
Davina McCall is honoured with the NTA’s Special Recognition Award after four decades in showbiz
The presenter was emotional as she accepted the high honour – and gushed over all her pals who had congratulated her.
Davina also teared up as she thanked her boyfriend, hairdresser to the stars Michael Douglas, for all the years spent together.
The pair met 20 years ago when Michael did Davina’s locks.
The Comedy NTA goes to… Mrs Brown’s Boys – for the SIXTH time
Brendan O’Carroll’s Irish comedy also won the award in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020.
Bridgerton star uses acceptance speech to hail diversity as Netflix series wins Recurring Drama
Martins Imhangbe, who plays Will Mondrich, accepted the award on behalf of the cast of the Shondaland series.
He gushed over being part of a show which tells the story of people forgotten or erased from history.
‘It is a blessing to be on a show which champions diversity,’ Martins said. ‘Long may it continue.’

Kate Garraway tears up as she accepts the Authored Documentary award
The broadcaster won the award for her documentary Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story – a film about her late husband’s battle with Covid.
‘We’re halfway through our first year of firsts – first Easters, first birthdays – without Derek,’ Kate said. She brought her children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 11, onto the stage to accept the award.
‘We’ve all been vulnerable, we’ve all struggled, we’ve all lost someone or are grieiving someone and it’s okay to need love and support,’ Kate added.
‘We need a system that catches us when we fall, doesn’t try to catch us out.’

Fellow nominee Bradley Walsh jumped to his feet to chase the duo onstage in a bid to jokingly stop them from accepting the award.

Sub postmaster Jo, played by Monica Dolan, took to the stage on Wednesday as the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office was awarded the Impact Award.
While Jo apllauded the public for helping them get justice – she revealed the Government’s failing to pay back sub postmasters.
The audience erupted into boos at the revelation many of those portrayed in the drama have not seen their money returned following the scandal.

The agenda setting four-part series tells the story of a long-running campaign to expose the Horizon IT system scandal, in which hundreds of Post Office staff were wrongfully accused of theft and fraud.
The ITV boss also said he knew the show was ’emotional’ and ‘well told’ after the first watch, but admitted he did not realise how much of a stir it would cause.
The show brought the issue back to the attention of the public and parliament, with the former Post Office boss Paula Vennells later announcing she planned to hand back her CBE following the scandal.

‘Oh my god I can’t believe we’re actually here we’ve done it baby,’ Sam shouted as he was asked to say a few words.
The TV personaity jumped up and down as he gushed over being surrounded by ‘proper celebs’ for last year’s show.
Toby Jones clinches the Drama Performance gong for Mr Bates vs The Post Office
The actor used his speech to wish Sir Alan Bates – whom he portrays in the ITV drama – congratulations on his recent wedding.

Nominees have started making their way onto the red carpet as they tentatively wait to find out their fate.
Broadcaster Kate Garraway has received a nod for her documentary about caring for her late husband Derek Draper – who tragically died earlier this year after a long battle with Covid.
Meanwhile Vicky McClure is nominated in the Drama Performance category for her role of Afghan war veteran Lana in the crime thriller series Trigger Point.
It’s red carpet time!
Aaaand we have lift off on the red carpet for this year’s NTAs at The O2.
Red carpet presenters and best friend duo Sam Thompson and Pete wicks were beaming as they posed together ahead of the influx of celebs.
Meanwhile This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard – who were snubbed in the presenting category – took to the carpet to show a united front.
Cat looked sensational in a relaxed ruched one-shoulder red gown, while Ben kept it classic in a tux.
Also spotted on the carpet was actor and former Strictly Bobby Brazier – who looked extra dapper for the occasion.
