Newsboy fancies his nap, Queensland Boy, to win at Wolverhampton and also hopes Dapper Charm can score at Carlisle and complete his Daily Double
QUEENSLAND BOY (6.40, Nap) is fancied to complete an all-weather hat-trick when he takes on 10 rivals in the Get Raceday Ready Handicap at Wolverhampton on Monday. The five-year-old, trained by Ian Williams comfortably won over course and distance in May under today’s jockey Ryan Kavanagh, winning by four lengths from Forglen.
My selection followed up at Lingfield at the end of last month when taking the lead two furlongs out and soon going clear to win easily again, this time by three and three-quarter lengths from Sydney Seabreeze. An 8lb rise from the handicapper may not be enough to stop the son of Australia going in again. Hollie Doyle travels up to Carlisle for just one ride – and the hint should be taken. She is on board Archie Watson’s DAPPER CHARM (2.15, nb) who has finished runner-up all three times he has run.
But the two-year-old now drops to a Class 5 and is fancied to break his duck. Last time out, my selection was beaten just half a length in a Class 2 Windsor maiden over today’s distance of six furlongs by Rising Empire. The son of Dandy Man took an early lead under Doyle but, once headed, fought back to press the winner all the way to the line. A similar display today would make him hard to beat in the PricedUp Restricted Maiden Stakes.
