Now they have taken a huge step towards making it happen after their expansion plans have been recommended to be approved by the BCP Council eastern planning committee.

Those plans would lay the foundations for the full project to be completed, with new turnstiles, a new perimeter fence built, a main stand extension and other works.

According to the Bournemouth Echo, BCP Council’s eastern BCP planning committee will meet to discuss the scheme next Thursday.

An officers’ report has been attached to the agenda for that meeting, recommending that councillors give approval to the plans.

However, that approval is subject to conditions that include providing a plan for parking management to cover the loss of spaces, including a pre-booking system, planting cherry trees and a section 106 agreement.

Bournemouth‘s long-term vision for Vitality Stadium will take the current capacity from 11,307 to around 20,500 in the next two-and-a-half years – with room to grow to over 23,000.

The redevelopment would make it only the second smallest Prem ground, leapfrogging Brentford’s G-tech Community Stadium with 17,000.

And Bournemouth‘s American billionaire owner Bill Foley reckons the Vitality won’t even need to close for the expansion.

Instead, the renovations will require the demolition of the current temporary South Stand, as well as the expansion of the existing North and East stands.

The plans also include a proposed new fan zone in the South West corner of the ground, between the new South Stand and current main stand.
