The immediate past Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, has said his resignation from the position was “purely for personal reasons.”
Agbebaku in a statement on Monday by his media team, said he maintained a cordial working relationship with all 24 members of the House throughout his tenure.
He said “Differences will naturally arise because we all have our individual identities and beliefs. However, that did not stop us from passing people-oriented Bills and Resolutions in the last three years of my leadership.”
The former Speaker, who represents Owan West Constituency, emphasised that his decision was taken “in the interest of peace, the state, and his immediate constituency.”
He expressed appreciation to the Governor Monday Okpebholo for his support and cooperation during his time in office.

Meanwhile, the former Speaker has congratulated his successor, Yekini Idaiye, and other newly elected principal officers of the House.
He called for peaceful coexistence among all lawmakers as the Assembly continues its legislative duties.
Agbebaku resigned on Monday during a brief plenary.
