Amadou & Mariam‘s new single, “L’amour à la folie” (French for: Mad Love), holds significant meaning, especially in light of Amadou Bagayoko’s passing on April 4, 2025. The track is the first from their highly anticipated self-titled album due for release in Autumn 2025.
The line, “Chéri, je t’aime jusqu’à la mort!” (Darling, I love you to death!), previously hummed by Mariam on “M’Bife Blues,” takes on a poignant, almost prophetic, meaning now. Yet, the song is far from melancholic. Instead, it pulses with the “raw joy” and “incandescent, exuberant, and unifying music” that defined the duo.
Blending Afro-rock riffs with psychedelic blues, “L’amour à la folie” sweeps across global soundscapes, embodying the “eternal hope of a beating, unstoppable” love.
Years in the making, the album was finalised last winter and was a source of deep excitement for Amadou and Mariam. Now, Mariam brings their shared vision to life on the road, performing beloved hits and new material.
