Taken from his fourth full-length album, Paint a Room, Chris Cohen (Deerhoof, The Curtains) has shared his new video and single, Sunever. The song is tender and emotionally charged, written for a transgender child in his life while considering the difficulties that hard-and-fast categories can create.
Lyrics like “always in between” serve as a reminder that life is a ceaseless series of transitions, while the hook “You’re gonna find a way” looks forward to new beginnings. The animated video was Directed by Guggenheim fellowship recipient Lilli Carré.
Paint a Room is Cohe’s first album in five years, a chance to step out from behind the production desk where recent credits include Weyes Blood, Kurt Vile, Marina Allen, Cass McCombs and Rose City Band. His new album sees him hone his jazz-flecked psych-pop into something quite sublime.
