José González Shares Heartfelt New Single “Pajarito”

Swedish-Argentine songwriter José González has released “Pajarito,” a playful and lighthearted new single sung in Spanish. Written with his children in mind, the track beautifully merges his signature, tender acoustic guitar style with bright, gentle melodies.

Speaking on the track, González says he aims to write songs that are “timeless, simple, and carefree.” He explains, “‘Pajarito’ is about growing up, learning things, and eventually becoming independent.”

As is common in his work, the song carries a deeper “existential undertone.” González notes, “the meaning of life is something that can emerge gradually as one gets to know the world, more as something you discover for yourself.”

The song was inspired by classics like Simon & Garfunkel’s “59th Street Bridge Song” and Silvio Rodríguez’s “Río,” as well as the many children’s songs that are now part of his family life. “Pajarito” is a direct companion to a previous track, “Lilla Gumman,” which he wrote for his daughter, Laura. “Of course I had to write a song dedicated to Mateo as well!” he adds.

Even the single’s artwork, a “Dala bird” painted by his partner Hannele Fernström, is a personal nod, inspired by Swedish folk art.

José González is set to embark on a North American tour and is currently in the studio working on his fifth studio album, the first since 2021’s Local Valley.
