Met Office issues thunderstorm warning for 6 areas with ‘power cut’ alert

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning impacting 6 areas as the glorious sunshine seen over recent weeks comes to an abrupt end. According to the Met Office, the unsettled conditions may impact homes and business with a possibility of damage to buildings and structures due to the flooding.

It said: “There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.” The Met Office further said that the unsettled weather could also lead cause delays to train services. There is also a chance of short term loss of power and other services on Tuesday.

Sharing the details, the forecaster said: “Showers will develop Tuesday morning, becoming heavy and locally thundery into the afternoon.

“Whilst some areas will miss these, where they do develop they will be slow-moving, bringing 20-30 mm of rain in an hour or two. Strong and gusty winds and hail will also be possible with the heaviest showers. Showers should slowly ease from the west into the evening.”

The weather warning comes as several parts of the UK are likely to be drenched in the rainy conditions with areas around England and Wales covered in the downpours.
