Some 40 gardaÃ, including armed members, executed raids on four properties in Co Cavan to arrest three men (30s) as part of an operation targeting organised crime.
The men were later charged and are due to appear before Monaghan District Court on Saturday.
The arrests are connected to Garda investigations into two âseriousâ assaults on three men in Cullyleenan, Ballyconnell.
The two incidents are understood to be linked to a localised dispute between organised family groups.
The first alleged assault â in the early hours of Sunday, August 2nd â left two men in their 30s with âserious, but non-life-threateningâ injuries, said An Garda SÃochána. The pair were brought to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.
Three days later â on the evening of August 5th â another man in his 30s was assaulted in the same area.
The incident, which the force said took place âoutside a commercial premisesâ, resulted in the man being hospitalised in Cavan General Hospital.
Due to the nature of the incidents, it is understood gardaà began investigating the two incidents for connections to organised crime.
On Friday, Cavan gardaà from various units with the support of the Armed Support Unit carried out a search and arrest operation in west Cavan.
Gardaà were involved in the searches of four separate addresses in the area.
The searches were part of an âongoing investigation into organised criminal activityâ resulted in the three men, all in their 30s, being arrested.
The force said the men are being held in the northwestern Garda region under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
