A collection of CCTV footage has revealed the final moments of the car that was driven into pedestrians at Liverpool FC’s Premier League parade. The videos show a Ford Galaxy car moving through Liverpool city centre before ploughing into crowds.
The incident happened in Water Street on Monday evening. A total of 79 people were injured. The footage, put together by our sister title the Liverpool Echo shows the car emerging onto Dale Street at its eastern-most point, close to the Queensway Tunnel. The Ford Galaxy is seen in this area at 5.56pm.
We can see then see the vehicle as it continues to pass along Dale Street. It is seen near the junction of Dale Street and Cumberland Street at 5.57pm. In this clip Dale Street is busy with both vehicles and pedestrians who are walking back from seeing the parade. At one point the Ford Galaxy appears to nearly collide with a woman who is crossing the road.
Another clip shows even further along Dale Street, close to Moorfields Station. This shows even more people walking in the road as they walk back from the parade. The Ford Galaxy can be seen making its way through the crowds of people.
The vehicle then continued towards Water Street and crashed into crowds celebrating the Liverpool FC win.
Merseyside Police officers are now speaking to more victims after the terrifying ordeal.
A 53-year-old white British man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and detectives have now been given more time to question him on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while unfit through drugs. He has not been charged.
