BREAKING NEWS: Israel trades strikes with Hezbollah as Lebanon reels after deadliest day since 2006

Israeli Military Launches Renewed Airstrikes in Eastern Lebanon

The Israeli military has resumed airstrikes in eastern Lebanon, according to reports from the Lebanese state news agency, NNA. On Tuesday, NNA reported that airstrikes were targeting Baalbek and its surrounding areas, specifically focusing on Al-Tal Al-Abyad district at Baalbek’s northern entrance, as well as the towns of Talia and Shamstar. In addition to the eastern regions, NNA reported Israeli airstrikes on a bridge in southern Lebanon, stating, “The Al-Mahmoudiya area near Al-Aishiya, in the Jezzine district, has been subjected to multiple airstrikes, with the bridge connecting Jezzine and Marjeyoun being a key target.”

These strikes come after Israel’s military confirmed that it had hit “dozens” of targets across Lebanon in response to a series of rocket barrages launched by Hezbollah. The militant group claimed responsibility for firing rockets into northern Israel overnight, reportedly targeting Ramat David airbase, Meggido airfield, and the Amos base, all near Afula in northern Israel.

On Monday, Lebanon experienced its deadliest day in nearly 20 years after Israel conducted widespread airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions throughout the country. The death toll reached nearly 500, including dozens of children. This single-day toll represents roughly half the number of Lebanese casualties during the entire 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. The precise number of Hezbollah militants among the casualties remains unclear.Israel’s military reported that it had struck 1,600 Hezbollah assets, which included rockets, cruise missiles, and explosive warheads. Many of these munitions were reportedly stored in civilian homes.Amid the bombardment, Lebanese residents have begun evacuating their homes after receiving evacuation warnings via text messages and phone calls. There were also reports of a Lebanese radio station being hacked, with its broadcasts interrupted by Israeli warnings urging civilians to leave the area.
