Holborn and St Pancras could be the death of Zack Polanski’s Greens

Oliver Dean

Polanski may well choose to stand in Holborn and St Pancras. He can use the competition as a referendum on his politics, to show that the Green dream lives on. But if he falls short, he will have almost certainly cemented the Green’s fate.

Deeper and wider, the reshuffle that says Burnham’s going to ‘go early’

Giles Dilnot

It’s quite clear that Badenoch, who to opponents appeared presumptuous in asking for “access talks” with the Civil Service last week – a protocol often afforded to the Opposition ahead of an election – was clearly trying to flush out a suspicion, that has now solidified. The Conservative Party is now sure Burnham will go early.

Britain is descending into anarcho-tyranny

Katie Lam

People are fed up, and rightly so. We all deserve to live in a country where people who work hard and do the right thing are rewarded. Those who work hard, and who want to, should be able to buy a new house, in the place that they want to live, without having to save up for several decades.

Is Putin planning something crazy in Eastern Europe?

Bob Seely

Putin probably hopes his new missiles will be silver bullets. There will be no realistic peace until next Spring or Summer, and only if Russia is successful on the battlefield. Ukraine will be a winter, but it’s difficult to see it being broken. Putin is increasingly inclined to hit Western targets, but he’s not there, quite yet.

We have normalised lawlessness in Teesside

Kiran Fothergill

Lawlessness has become weather – something you plan around, complain about and expect. That is what normalisation means, and it is a moral event, not just a criminological one. A society that shrugs has already conceded.

I’m a wet. Kemi is wrong

Cody Butler

The consequence, if left unattended, is clear. If you institutionally remove representatives, create a culture of mocking and scapegoating, and design policies that appeal primarily to one wing of the electorate, you lose the moderates.

We’ve listened, learned and changed and we’re coming back to win with a new cadre of stars

Kevin Hollinrake

I have been incredibly impressed by the quality and calibre of the over 2,000 people who have applied to join our candidates list. What you will see as selections begin in the weeks and months ahead is serious people joining our ranks from every walk of life.

Of course Reform UK have a problem with James Cleverly running for Mayor of London

James Ford

Laila Cunningham is right to be nervous about the threat posed by the Tories finally finding a heavyweight candidate for City Hall at last. And not just because her media honeymoon will now be over. James Cleverly is the most experienced candidate for City Hall any party has fielded.

—

London is not a ‘Labour city’ it’s just currently run by them – I can change that

James Cleverly

There will be a contest to choose the Conservative candidate for Mayor, and that is a good thing. But whoever takes on Labour must start from a simple conviction: London is worth fighting for. Streets should feel safe. Transport should work. Public spaces should be clean. Competence is not glamorous, but it matters.
