After a relentless pressure campaign by Democratic lawmakers, operatives, and donors, President Joe Biden has announced he is dropping out of the 2024 race. From being one of the youngest senators to becoming the oldest sitting president in US history, Biden’s remarkable political career has come to an abrupt end.

This move will exhilarate those in the Democratic Party who have been calling for a younger candidate, but it will also dishearten those who see this as a disenfranchisement of their primary vote.

When it comes to the Trump campaign, however, they might have the most panicked reaction out of everyone.

The most definitive depiction of this fear comes from The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta, who was embedded with the Trump campaign for six months. The “campaign is all but praying Joe Biden doesn’t drop out,” Alberta wrote, on July 10. Now their nightmares have come true.

Donald Trump, despite the recent tensions between him and his once-favorite network Fox News, wants the next presidential debate on the conservative-leaning channel, he posted on Truth Social on Sunday.

“My debate with Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the history of the United States, was slated to be broadcast on Fake News ABC, the home of George Slopadopolus, sometime in September,” he wrote. “Now that Joe has, not surprisingly, has quit the race, I think the Debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews, rather than very biased ABC. Thank you! DJT”

Georgia congresswoman Greene described Biden’s decision to drop out in predictably conspiratorial terms.

“There’s a soft civil war happening in the deep state and the elites in power,” she wrote on X. “The Democrats, the IC, and their activists in the media have been lying to us saying there’s nothing wrong with Biden for years. Next, they start a coup against him demanding he drop out of the race when they couldn’t hide it anymore. “

She also baselessly accused the Bidens of dropping out of the campaign because they obtained “the price they demanded for the presidential library that will pay the entire family for years to come.”

The Republican VP nominee said on Sunday if the Democratic president was out of the campaign, he should resign from the White House as well.

“If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining President?” Vance wrote on X. “Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief. There is no middle ground.”

In recent days, Elon Musk has emerged as one of the most influential voices throwing support behind the Trump 2024 campaign.

Following the announcement that Biden was withdrawing from the presidential election, Musk reacted with amusement, posting a crying laughing emoji in response to a satirical news article that Jill Biden was dropping out of the presidential race.

Musk later elaborated with a more sincere appraisal of the race, claiming in a post on X, “My smartest friends, including those living in the San Francisco Bay Area who have been lifelong Dems, are excited about Trump/Vance.”

“I believe in an America that maximizes individual freedom and merit,” Musk wrote. “That used to be the Democratic Party, but now the pendulum has swung to the Republican Party.”

Recent polls have offered mixed predictions about a hypothetical match-up between Harris and Trump.

A YouGov poll in mid-July found her trailing Trump by five points, a larger gap than Biden, in a hypothetical mash-up, while an Ispsos poll showed her tied with the Republican.
