AFCON 2023: Governors donate N200 million to support the Super Eagles.

Sen. John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has secured a funding of N200 million for the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they prepare for their semi-final match at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Diana-Mary Nsan, the Special Adviser Media to the Minister, it was revealed that the donation came from the leadership of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

The minister expressed his appreciation to Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, who is the Chairman of the Forum, as well as all the members for their prompt response after he highlighted the importance of motivating the team ahead of their semifinal encounter.

Sen. John Owan Enoh has confirmed that the Progressive Governors’ Forum has disbursed the N200 million to the Super Eagles.

“I extend my gratitude to the Progressive Governors’ Forum, led by Gov. Uzodimma of Imo, for promptly disbursing N200 million to the Super Eagles.

“The team has displayed remarkable dedication and resilience in every match, indicating their readiness to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

“Hence, it’s imperative that we throw our support behind them as they carry the weighty responsibility of making our nation proud,” Enoh stated.

Nigeria is set to face perennial rivals, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake today at 6 pm (Nigerian time).

This match echoes the 2000 AFCON semi-finals in Lagos, where Nigeria triumphed 2-0 over South Africa. Similarly, in the 2019 AFCON quarter-finals, Nigeria emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against the Bafana Bafana.
