A brazen yob who was pictured looting a Greggs as well as a Lush store in Hull has been sentenced to four and a half years in jail.
John Honey, of Park Grove, Hull pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and violent disorder before being dealt the lengthy prison term.
The 25-year-old was also issued a five-year criminal behaviour order for his part in the UK riots, which gripped the country in the days following the horrific stabbings of three young girls in Southport.
Honey, who wore a very distinctive England T-shirt emblazones with a giant St George’s flag, was also pictured swiping a stack of treats from Greggs bakers as chaos erupted all over the city on August 3.
He also pleaded guilty to racially aggravated criminal damage after joining a “baying mob” who smashed up a BMW and nine other cars as thugs terrorised the streets of Hull.
Fellow rioter David Wilkinson, 48, has been jailed for six years, as police forces up and down the country continue to charge people with more and more crimes.
“Over-confident” Honey’s sentencing was due to take place earlier in the week, but was adjourned until Friday because a prison officer claimed the defendant asked him if he wanted his autograph, because “he is famous and is all over social media”.
This brazen showboating doesn’t appeared to have helped his mitigation, as he was today given a 54-month jail term for his actions, and the lack of remorse he has shown since.
The manager of the raided Lush store told the court via a victim impact statement that the horrifying ordeal has had a “massive impace” on staff – some of whom are scared to return to work at the fancy bath bomb store, in case something similar happens again.
