John E Vistic comes roaring back into the public consciousness with his new single Authenticate This!
Louder Than War brings you the Video Premiere of a song which heralds a return to his punk rock roots which underpin his new album out on 27th September.
Following on from John E Vistic’s recent album, Ten Simple Songs About Death, which represented a significant shift in focus to a more stripped back, thought-provoking and symphonic-acoustic vibe, he is now very much back in the rock’n’roll saddle with his new single, Authenticate This! Louder Than War bring you the Video Premiere for the single which signposts us back towards John’s usual brand of no-holds barred, raw and visceral style of rock’n’roll which runs through his forthcoming album, Das Ubermensch, which is out on 27 September.
Authenticate This! Is very much immersed in the shadows of The Stooges ramped up with its high octane-fuelled fuzzed up guitars and Iggy style gnarly vocals. The song was produced with additional guitars by the legendary Stew Jackson (Massive Attack/Emily Breeze). However all wrapped up in this sonic explosion of noise, there is a more serious challenge within the narrative alluding to our own individual identities and fakes in a world of illusions, with a reference to the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre who advised people not to conflate their role in life with their being.
As John explains, “Sartre says ‘don’t be a waiter’ – he means someone who mistakes their role in life for their actual ‘being’. e.g. you can’t stick a knife in a ‘waiter’ but you can stick a knife in a man who is working as a waiter. My song references that line in the middle 8, and obviously the song is a fairly joking reference to the idea that everyone now thinks THEY are authentic and everyone else is fake.” One thing that is fact here is that Authenticate This! is a barnstormer of a song which builds great excitement for a new album which is themed around the concept of aggressive existentialism.
