Prince Harry’s key move shows ‘cold war still persists in Royal Family’

It has been revealed that the Duke of Sussexes’ memoir, Spare, which first hit shelves in January 2023, will be re-released and available in shops within two months in a paperback version.

An additional key move, however, shows tensions are still rife between Prince Harry and the Royal Family – the fact he is keeping quiet about its re-release, and not opening the book with a “different prologue” or highlighting any “regret”.

Royal expert and historian, Tessa Dunlop, told the Mirror: “Those who suggest that this paperback release, with no additional material, is an olive branch, are sadly mistaken. New material can be conciliatory, Harry might have taken the lead and opened with a different prologue, fore-fronting his regret about how things turned out, and reiterating his good wishes for Kate and the King.

Tessa added: “That he has decided to stay shtum is indicative of the cold war which persists within the Royal Family. On the eve of his 40th birthday, there is little sign of a reconciliation.”

The explosive memoir sent shockwaves around the world with the first release, as it highlighted tensions between Prince Harry and Queen Camilla, and claims from Harry about Prince William fighting and pushing him into a dog bowl.

It is common for a paperback version of a non-fiction book to have updated information, but it is understood the contents of the paperback version remain “unchanged”.
