As part of efforts towards deepening United Nations SDGs on Climate Action, empowering Youths and Civil Society Organizations with knowledge and skills to localize climate policies in Isoko South LGA, Delta state and Nigeria in general for stronger Community engagement, a reputable Non-profit, non-governmental Organization based in Delta State, Courageous Girls Women & Children Initiative (CGWCI), has called for global best practices in combating climate resilience efforts.
The Founder/Executive Director, Courageous Girls Women & Children Initiative (CGWCI) made this disclosure as she briefed media today being Friday, September 13th, 2024 on the outcome of her two-day workshop which is the Step down training for Youth CSOs in Delta State on the theme: “Nigeria’s National Climate Policies & Climate Action” held on Thursday -Friday (September 12th-13th), 2024 at Oleh, Isoko South LGA of Delta State.
Speaking to the media, Uyoyou has tasked Youth CSOs in Delta on the need to further amplify, step down the impact of the training through the knowledge gained and skills acquired to their various communities towards achieving the overall efforts of combating climate change for environmental sustainability.
While commending Participants for gracing event, CGWCI’s development partners; Nigeria Youth SDGs Network with funding from German Missions in Nigeria on the support towards the actualization of Nigeria’s National Climate Policies Training for Youth CSOs in Delta, she then called on critical stakeholders to join the advocacy in their various communities.
In her words: “The step-down training on Nigeria’s National Climate Policies and Climate Action was held in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th September 2024. This training was part of the project titled “Empowering Youth Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria”, which aimed to equip and enhance the knowledge and capacities of youth-led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Delta State”.
“All of whom are actively involved in climate and community development work, with knowledge and tools to enhance climate action and policy advocacy in their communities. The main focus is to familiarize participants with Nigeria’s Climate Policies and empower them to take actionable steps towards climate resilience and environmental Sustainability”.
“Through interactive sessions, 10 CSOs from Delta State were educated on the importance of aligning their activities with the national climate action plan and how they can play a critical role in advocating for and implementing climate solutions within their communities”.
“They learned the key aspects of Nigeria’s climate policies, including the National Adaptation Plan and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), which align with global climate goals under the Paris Agreement. The participants were also introduced to best practices for engaging local communities in climate resilience efforts and advocating for sustainable environmental policies at both local and national levels”.
“This initiative was supported by the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network, with funding from the German Missions in Nigeria and implemented by the Courageous Girls Women and Children Initiative-CGWCI”.
“By empowering youth CSOs with the knowledge and skills to drive climate action, the project aims to foster stronger community engagement and contribute to Nigeria’s overall efforts in combating climate change”.
“The training was interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and collaborating on strategies to localize climate policies.
The trained CSOs from Oshimili South LGA, Warri South LGA, Uvwie LGA and Isoko South LGA are expected to step down the knowledge gained to their respective communities, further amplifying the impact of the training across Delta State”.
