Out Now

Nathan Brown blows the whistle as a new chuffer from Eastfield pulls into the station.

If you don’t know who Eastfield are you’ve been robbed! Playing anywhere from festivals to small pubs, they seem to be constantly gigging. They manage to remain perennially positive and are a lovely bunch of people.  Eastfield are named after a railway maintenance depot, don’t ya know? They have been occupying the top slot in Rail Punk ever since Blyth Power put in for a refit. You don’t have to be a trainspotter to like them but if you are, there’s probably an extra layer of joy to be had.

Eastfield’s rapid fire lyrics are full of clever poetic word play, littered with metaphors, familiar phrases, song titles and train references. Between them, Jesse and Trina provide non-stop singing with catchy melodies that give a folky lilt to the upbeat scratchy, catchy and dancey punk tunes.

This mini-album, or extended extended play, on 10 inches features the first production efforts of sound engineer Trystan O’Connell, who’s done a good job of capturing the Eastfield vibe. He can be found in the wild slinging 6 strings for Active Slaughter and 4 strings for Left For Dead, both of whom have releases on Grow Your Own so it’s very much “in the family”.

Eastfield vinyl CDThe opening and closing tracks (End Of Days and End Of Daze) are different approaches to the same song but different enough that I had to listen a couple of times following the lyrics in the booklet just to make sure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me. Paint It Red – about trying to sabotage the New Forest Hunt and instead finding a group of paintballers – certainly brought a smile to my face. Humour is never far away and I swear you can actually hear their beaming smiles. Treat yourself to this latest release from Grow Your Own Records and I reckon you’ll be smiling too.

The vinyl comes in a gatefold booklet cover and the CD comes in a slip sleeve with a booklet.
