Los Angeles, CA – Music icon Janet Jackson has stirred debate after making controversial remarks about U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Jackson echoed a claim previously suggested by former President Donald Trump, questioning Harris’ Black heritage.
During the conversation, Jackson stated that she had heard Harris isn’t Black but rather Indian, a statement that mirrors a claim made by Trump during a discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention in July. When corrected by the interviewer, who clarified that Harris is both Black and Indian, Jackson insisted, “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
Harris, whose father is of Jamaican-American descent and mother of Indian descent, identifies as Black and has made this clear throughout her career. The comments have reignited conversations around race and identity in American politics.
Beyond these claims, Jackson also shared her concerns about the upcoming election, expressing doubt about the possibility of a peaceful transition of power, regardless of the outcome.
