Balaam & The Angel return with Forces Of Evil EP

Balaam & The Angel, were formed by the three Morris brothers Des, James and Mark in the early 80’s having been inspired by the likes of Bauhaus, the Sisters Of Mercy, Theatre Of Hate etc. At this point the brothers were living in Cannock, Staffordshire and attending the Futurama Festival at Bingley Hall, Stafford was the key moment that led to the creation of Balaam & The Angel.

Initially signed to the influential Chapter 22 label the band released their debut World Of Light EP in November 1984. Two further releases for Chapter 22 took them into the UK Indie Chart, before the band signed for Virgin in 1984 releasing the She Knows single in March that year, the single did well and was further released in both Germany and Italy. Two further albums with Virgin followed as well as tour support slots with the likes of The Mission, The Cult, Iggy Pop and (inexplicably) Aerosmith, culminating in their final album Prime Time in 1983.

Since that date, the band have maintained a limited presence through carefully selected performances and tours.

On Friday 25th October, Balaam And The Angel will release Forces Of Evil, a collection of recently recorded songs to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s first 4 track EP World Of Light (released in Nov 1984). It is the first release of new material for over 30 years.

The record will be released on the band’s newly created Darklands Recordings label (Darklands being one of the tracks that appeared on their debut World Of Light EP). The material was recorded in Oxygene Studios Manchester with Christoph Bride (who has recently worked on albums by The Chameleons and Kirk Brandon/Theatre Of Hate/ Spear Of Destiny). The sound of the record marries the feel of the bands darker past with the punchier edge of their later releases. The single will be released on various vinyl formats and is available to pre-order now via Big Cartel
