The paths of West Coast canyon dweller Katie Schottland, aka Swimming Bell, and Sheffield-born Cosmic choogler Bobby Lee are set to converge next month for a co-headline tour at some great UK venues, including Sheffield’s Hyde Park Book Club and Todmorden’s Golden Lion.
Both artists have taken some giant creative steps recently; Swimming Bell’s latest studio album, Charlie, marked her out as an artist to watch for, one who “transcends simple labels”, creating a unique sound all her own that sets her apart.
Schottland was also one of our Off the Shelf guests, giving KLOF Mag readers an insight into her life through objects, artwork and memories:
Likewise, Sheffield’s Bobby Lee’s third studio album Endless Skyways, also carved out musical peaks as he reverted to the full band set-up of his debut, Origin Myths. KLOF’s Glenn Kimpton noted in his review: “A probing sense of playing is present here, as it was on Origin Myths, and again illustrates Lee’s interest in blending the spirit of country music with more esoteric genres, like psychedelia or noise. And the songs themselves seem happy to take their time reaching full germination…”. He concludes, “A huge step forward from Bobby Lee, Endless Skyways is a bold, dramatic and sensitive collaboration between the guitarist and his intuitive band. An exciting and fascinating piece of work.”
