As elected Conservative councillors, we are backing Kemi Badenoch to be the next Leader of the Conservative Party.
Through her Renewal 2030 project, she is clearly demonstrating her grasp of the task facing the Conservative Party.
Kemi understands that it was not just during the General Election that millions of voters abandoned us, but also in elections over the past five years. This is because we failed in Government to solve their problems. This cost thousands of hard-working Conservative councillors their seats and put millions of residents at the mercy of Labour- and Liberal Democrat-run councils.
Kemi recognises the need to rebuild our Party based on Conservative principles. Fundamentally, this means demonstrating that we have a plan to re-engineer the way government works – at local, devolved, and national levels – to focus on solving those problems, not simply managing a poor system better.
Kemi has been clear that the elections in May 2025 will be a priority for her as Leader, so we can retain control of the councils we run and improve our position in the ones we don’t, while continuing to demonstrate to millions of people that Conservative councils deliver for them.
We urge Members of Parliament to vote for Kemi in the remaining rounds within their control, so the party membership has the opportunity to vote for Kemi in the last stage of the leadership contest.
