‘Timeless’: The Weeknd Breaks Usher’s Top 10 Record, Ties Justin Timberlake & Bruno Mars in Hot 100 History Books with New Hit

The Weeknd fans may have been worried about public reception of his forthcoming ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow‘ album after its first single, ‘Dancing in the Flames,’ made a lukewarm debut on the Hot 100 recently, but the out-of-the-gate performance of its successor is certainly cooling those concerns.

The Playboi Carti-assisted cut debuted at #3 on the refreshed Hot 100. Here are the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Streaming ≈ 28.6 million U.S.-based streams
  • Sales ≈ 6,000 digital downloads
  • Radio Airplay ≈  5.1 million audience impressions

For Carti, the entry marks the fifth top 10 hit of his career. On the other hand, The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) is enjoying his 19th visit to the chart region.

Previously tied with Usher for most top 10 hits earned this century among Black male vocalists, Tesfaye – with 19 top 10 hits in tow – now owns the honor by his lonesome.

On the all-time list, Abel has tied Prince in third place among all Black male singers behind Stevie Wonder (28) and King of Pop Michael Jackson (30).

Among all male vocalists, The Weeknd’s now tied in second place with Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars for most top 10 hits this century. Leading this pack of male vocalists is Justin Bieber with 26.

When all acts of every performance type are considered, the aforementioned – while boasting impressive chart stats – still have a long way to go if they want to surpass the overall champion, rapper Drake (with a whopping 78 top 10 hits).

Keep it locked to That Grape Juice this week to see who else is enjoying buzzworthy moments on the charts.
