Oyo wants Igboora Twins Festival listed on UNESCO


Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Saturday, stated his determination to have the Igboora Twins Festival enlisted on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) platform as a world tourist site.

Makinde gave the assurance during the 2024 Twins Festival held at Methodist Grammar School, Igboora, Oyo State.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Makinde said the twins are uniquely made beings and must always be protected by both the government and society.

The governor said the state was ready to promote the festival further, calling on the Igboora community, through its local government administrator, to donate a piece of land to the government for twin artefacts and yearly celebrations.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion and member representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abass Adigun, noted that the Igboora Twins Festival highlighted the richness of culture and tradition in Oyo State.

Earlier, in his address, the state’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, said the state’s target was to achieve UNESCO and Guinness Book of Records enlistment. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Olusola Adeleke, lauded the Seyi Makinde-led administration for strengthening the tourism sector.
