Electro pop duo Ready, Steady, Die! unveiled their latest masterpiece ‘Access To Pollution’ on 1 October 2024. The duo consists of producer Morgan Visconti who is based in New York, as well as songwriter and vocalist Sam K who lives in the UK.
Renowned for their trademark dark, yet poignant music and storytelling, the duo often address issues related to the human condition, relationship complexities and social ills. ‘Access To Pollution’ reflects this notion immaculately as it addresses gender based violence and toxic relationship dynamics. The track features eerie, hefty synths, a foreboding, steady beat along with Sam’s tender vocals swaying over the instrumentation.
Sam divulges; “I was stuck in a traffic jam on the M25 (incidentally the motorway which inspired Chris Rea’s ‘The Road to Hell’) one day trying to come up with lyrics and melody from Morgan’s music. In the hard shoulder of the motorway there was a random sign, which just said, ‘Access to Pollution’. I started thinking about how this was quite a statement and could relate to a whole host of toxins accessible within the environment and within our relationships with each other and with ourselves.”

The music video was directed by Max Clendaniel, and tells the tale of two people who meet at a club for the first time, and a romance ensues. The connection begins perfectly, but soon after it takes a toxic turn. The story is told in a comedic and slightly absurd manner, as they’re dressed as balloons, but the message is as powerful and visceral as the track.
