Chart Check: The Top 5 Debut of GloRilla’s ‘Glorious’ Puts Her in Billboard 200 History Books Beside Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, & Cardi B

It’s a great week to be Glorilla.

As if watching her debut album, the October 11-released ‘Glorious,’ be greeted with swarms of critical acclaim wasn’t enough to boast, the project entered the Billboard 200 with the highest first-week sum captured by any female Rap album released this year.

What’s more, multiple songs from the star-studded LP made noise on singles charts with ‘Whatchu Kno About Me‘ becoming her latest Hot 100 top 40 smash and ‘Rain Down on Me‘ topping the Gospel tally in record fashion.

However, the success of ‘Rain’ isn’t the only way Glo’s made a splash in Billboard history books this weeks.

As reported here, ‘Glorious’ debuted at #5 on the refreshed Billboard 200 (the highest opening of any female artist this week) thanks to sales of 69,000.

The handsome premiere puts Glo in a unique club of female rappers who can boast watching their inaugural studio effort arrive in the all-genre chart’s top 5.

On the list is Missy Elliott (‘Supa Dupa Fly,’ #3, 1997), Lauryn Hill (‘Miseducation,’ #1, 1998), Eve‘s (‘Let There Be Eve,’ #1, 1999), Nicki Minaj (‘Pink Friday,’ #1, 2010), Iggy Azalea (‘The New Classic,’ #2, 2014), Cardi B (‘Invasion of Privacy,’ #1, 2018), and Megan Thee Stallion (‘Good News,’ #2, 2020).

At just 25-years-old, Glo is the youngest female rapper to see her inaugural studio effort debut in the Billboard 200’s top 5 this decade while Azalea – who was 24 when ‘Classic’ arrived – holds this record for the century.

The all-time record remains Eve’s, however, as she was merely 20-years-old when her first album ‘Let There Be Eve’ was penciled into the #1 spot in 1999.
