Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved an increase in the minimum wage for civil servants to N71,000, starting from November. The new wage will significantly raise the state’s monthly payroll, increasing costs by an estimated N6 billion, with an additional N7 billion for local government staff.
In addition, 20,737 teachers who were recently promoted will now receive a salary increase totaling over N340 million.
Governor Yusuf, in a statement posted on his Facebook page, expressed his commitment to the welfare of Kano’s workforce. “This decision aligns with my administration’s dedication to social justice and improving living standards for our workers,” he shared. “We have approved N71,000 as the new minimum wage in Kano State.”
He further acknowledged the state minimum wage implementation committee for their hard work, adding, “I commend the committee for its dedication and commendable efforts.”
