Phillipson Expresses ‘Deep Regret’ That Guido Scooped Tuition Fee Rise

Bridget Phillipson has now confirmed Guido’s scoop from earlier today in a statement to the Commons. An angry Hoyle has asked for an inquiry into how the media managed to get the story first. Good luck with that…

This is the latest in a line of issues that Hoyle has had with Labour failing to announce policy changes in the Commons in good time. He lost it at ministers over the budget last week…

Phillipson expressed her regret:

“Can I begin by saying I wish to express my deep regret that the content of the statement that I’m about to give appeared in the media earlier this afternoon. It had always been my atttention to come before this House first to make the statement given the significance and importance of this.”

Guido was right on the exact figure for the increased cap – £9,535 – which Lobby hacks following the story weren’t prepared to copy and paste into their stories. A £285 increase. Meanwhile maintenance loans in England will rise by around 3.1% and foundation year courses lowered to £5,760. No re-introduction of grants, as Guido said earlier. Tomorrow’s news today…
