Rush hour chaos has unfolded for London commuters after a person was struck by a train this afternoon.
Lines are currently blocked and emergency services are at the scene of the tragedy in East Croydon.
A Southern Rail spokesman said: ‘It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train at East Croydon.Â
‘All lines are blocked whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow.’
Since the initial announcement officials have advised some lines are open again but added ‘your journey will still be delayed’.
An eyewitness explained: ‘My train stopped just before Selhurst for about 30min. When we arrived to East Croydon, everyone seemed to rush to platform 6 to catch the first train ready to depart in the direction of Gatwick.
‘Platform 1 was completely blocked to access and the station staff clearly said that someone was hit by a train, causing major delays. It happened at the front of the station.’
Southern Rail have said all services to and from London are affected and advised commuters to find an alternative route.

A Southern Rail spokesman responded: ‘We’d advise that you listen out for announcements onboard regarding this.’Â
