Electoral Calculus this week polled 2,027 Brits on Labour’s approach to foreign affairs. Respondents were given the background on the Chagos surrender:

The government plans to hand over the Chagos Islands, a British territory in the Indian Ocean, to Mauritius and also to pay Mauritius a reported £90 million each year to lease Diego Garcia, a key Western defence base on the islands. Do you agree or disagree with Britian giving the Chagos Islands to Mauritius?”

40% of Brits disagreed with Labour’s deal compared to a measly 18% in favour. Two-to-one…

More Labour voters agree with the deal than disagree. The strongest opposition comes from Reform voters who are 74% opposed compared to 71% of Tories. Under-fire Attorney General Richard Hermer, who pledged eternal allegiance to the ECHR yesterday, is said to have been involved in the surrender deal’s passage since Labour took power.
