The number of homes, farms and businesses still without electricity as a result of storm damage has fallen to about 74,000, according to ESB Networks’ latest update.
The utility said by midday Friday it had restored supply to toâ¯694,000 customers.
ESB Networks said however that it still has many faults on the network and it is aware of several potentiallyâ¯very dangerousâ¯incidents where members of the public have unknowingly approached fallen electricity infrastructure, particularly in the worst impacted areas.
ESB Networks reiterated its warning to people to never touch or approach these as they are live and extremely dangerous.
Uisce Ãireann said there were less than 800 premises across remaining without water supply by Friday lunchtime. Supplies were returning to normal levels of service for most customers. the utility operator said.
In areas where water has not yet returned, alternative water supplies would remain in place to support local communities, including those on private wells and group water schemes.
There are around 380 group water schemes across rural Ireland, serving almost 200,000 people. The National Federation of Group Water Schemes CEO, Mark Farrelly, said the sector âhas been significantly impactedâ by the lack of power and communication networks but thanks to the use of generators and the efforts of volunteers, just 15 group water schemes remain without any power, covering some 1,600 households.
