John McKay (ex Siouxsie and the Banshees guitarist) announces albumJohn McKay announces album

This is very exciting news.

An archive release that still sounds like the future.

One of Britain’s most innovative and influential guitarists *ever*, John McKay was the first recorded guitarist for Siouxsie & the Banshees and his sound – from ‘Hong Kong Garden’, ‘The Scream’ and ‘Join Hands’ – influenced @robertsmith, @thurstonmoore58, @johnnymarrgram, @jimjimreid, Kevin Shields . . . and countless others. his style was groundbreaking and more than helped the shape and possibilities of post punk. The style and sound was totally unique and created soundscapes that made the band one of the most thrilling of their era. Few people have invented a new sound and opened the possibilities of the guitar and yet somehow made it into a kind of pop/noise – jagged and dissonant but also compelling and melodic – his guitar was a gamechanger and changed the perception of what could be done with a guitar and rock music itself.

Producer @steve_lillywhite called him “the innovator” and he should know he produced the first Siouxsie and the Banshees album and helped record the shape shifting sound.

So whatever happened to him? He left the Banshees, but he didn’t stop playing. ‘Sixes And Sevens’ is a collection of unheard archival material from the period right after he fled The Banshees. Every song is as intense and brilliant and intoxicating as his best stuff with the Banshees. ‘Sixes And Sevens’ is *the* lost treasure from the post-punk era.

For a limited time only, all Bandcamp orders will ship with a bonus booklet of lyrics and tales, plus a bonus CD with five extra songs we couldn’t fit on the album. It’s amazing that there was so much stuff out there in the archives and all we heard was a few tracks by his shortlived yet brilliant Siouxsie and the Banshees project Zor Gabor.

Pre-order from: https://tinyglobalproductions.bandcamp.com

It’s out on May 9.
