Oleksandr Usyk achieved the highest regard in boxing after defeating Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia cementing his legacy forever in the history books. However, although there is a rematch clause in play Eddie Hearn suggests he heard talks about Oleksandr Usyk retiring.
Oleksandr Usyk Retiring From Boxing?
In an interview with iFLTV Eddie Hearn has suggested that he heard Usyk and/or members of his team discussing the possibility of Usyk retiring from boxing immediately after he defeated Tyson Fury to claim the undisputed titles. The interviewer asked Hearn: “Moving forward now, I mean it’s inevitable that Tyson Fury will take this rematch now, in his next fight?”
Hearn responded: “Not sure, they’re talking about Usyk retiring, I don’t think so, I mean there’s a huge amount of money for the rematch and I think he will fancy his chances. He had Fury badly hurt”
Hearn also praised Usyk, saying: “Usyk is also a genius, you’re talking about a guy, he’s so undersized did you see the size difference in there tonight? The disadvantage against the size of that man, especially one with the movement and great footwork like Tyson Fury and to overcome that you’re talking about one of the greatest fighters of our generation”
We will continue to follow this story, however with Oleksandr Usyk now claiming undisputed status in both Cruiserweight and Heavyweight in 22 fights, and no new weight to move to again to conquer, the question remains… what does Oleksandr Usyk have left to achieve?
