Libya are celebrating the absence of Victor Osimhen who will miss this month’s Group D AFCON 2025 qualifiers due to injury.
Osimhen got injured in Galatasarayâs league game against Kasimpasa and had to be substituted at halftime.
According to a statement by Galatasaray, Osimhen is expected to return after the international break.
Libya News 24, in its report on Friday, stated that Osimhenâs absence could favour the Mediterranean Knights.
âOsimhenâs absence could represent a golden opportunity to turn the balance of power in our favor.â
The news outlet also commented on the absence of Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah who is also out due to injury.
âIn addition to Osimhenâs injury, Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah will also miss the two Libya matches due to injury. Ndah, who is considered one of the pillars of the Nigerian national teamâs defence, played a decisive role in the recent match against Benin, as he helped keep his teamâs goal clean. His absence represents a defensive gap that the Libyan team may exploit to increase pressure on Nigeriaâs weak defence.â
Meanwhile, Al Wasat Gate reported that the Libyan government, through the Ministry of Sports has concluded arrangements to fly the team to Uyo in a private jet.
âThe Ministry of Sports announced that it will bear the expenses of the Libyan national football team in its transportation by private plane to Nigeria to face its national team in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, which will be hosted by Morocco next year.
âThe Ministry of Sports said that it will also bear the expenses of the Libyan national teamâs internal camp in Tripoli, as well as the expenses of accommodation and transportation for the second leg match against the Nigerian national team in Benghazi.â
Also, according to Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, the Mediterranean Knights are expected to travel to Nigeria on Sunday from Tripoli, where they have been holding training.
The first leg between the Super Eagles and Libya comes up on October 11 in Uyo while the return leg comes up on October 15.
The Eagles began their campaign with a 3-0 win against Benin and a 1-1 draw with Rwanda.
