The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a teenager for allegedly bringing a pistol to a primary school in the state and threatening to harm his schoolmates with it.
The Guardian gathered that the incident happened at St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, in the Eket Local Government Area.
The state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, announced the arrest during a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Azare said operatives of the command received credible information on January 30 at around 8 a.m. that the boy was carrying a pistol in the school and threatening to fire at his fellow pupils.
He said, “The operatives of the command immediately swung into action, arrested the suspect, and recovered a locally made pistol.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had been in possession of the gun since November 2024 and that he got it from a ward in his father’s bedroom.”
The commissioner said the suspect’s father had been arrested, adding that an investigation had commenced into the matter.
