Bangladesh PM resigns and flees country after weeks of deadly rioting

Bangladesh’s prime minister has resigned and fled the country after weeks of rioting that has left hundreds dead.

Sheikh Hasina escaped in a military helicopter as protesters stormed her official residence.

Demonstrations by students began last month against quotas for government jobs and it is thought that at least 300 people have been killed.

The head of Bangladesh’s army has said he is involved in talks to form an interim government.
