Bayern Munich have revealed that Mathys Tel remains ‘undecided’ over his future following Manchester United’s latest attempt to sign the winger before the end of the January transfer window.
Tottenham appeared to be closing in on signing Tel this week after a €60 million (£50.2m) fee was agreed with Bayern on Thursday.
However, the 19-year-old has turned down a move to Spurs, even after the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, travelled to Munich on Friday in an attempt to convince the French winger.
According to Sky Germany, United have stepped up their efforts to sign Tel on loan as a replacement for Marcus Rashford, who is now set to join Aston Villa.
The report adds that Aston Villa have also made an approach for Tel on Saturday morning, meanwhile, Arsenal remain interested but have not followed up with a move.
Tel, who has started just three games this season, was left out of the squad for Bayern’s 4-3 win against Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking before that game, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, claimed it is ‘quite possible’ that Tel will now stay until the end of the season.
‘We are having a lot of discussions with him,’ Freund told Sky Germany.
‘There has been a lot going on with the boy in the last few days – he is only 19 years old.
‘Yesterday we decided together with him that his head is full and that it therefore makes no sense for him to be in the squad today. But that doesn’t mean anything.
‘It’s quite possible that he’ll still be a Bayern Munich player on Tuesday.
‘He’s undecided. There’s been a lot going on with him in the last few days and he should now take his time to think things through.’
