Global mobility company Bolt has committed â¬100 million (approximately $107 million) to improve safety measures for both drivers and riders in Nigeria.
This significant investment will fund new safety features, accident prevention strategies, improved customer support, and public safety awareness campaigns.
Lola Masha, Boltâs Regional Manager for North and West Africa, emphasised that the new scoring system aims to uphold quality standards. However, not everyone supports this initiative.
The Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUTON) has expressed concerns about the potential negative impacts. According to Lagos council chairman Comrade Jaiyesimi Azeez, the system may impose psychological stress on drivers, which could adversely affect their performance.
Upcoming features include a four-digit trip pickup code and a trip counter, both designed to make rides more secure and reliable for all users. Additionally, the company announced that it has removed more than 5,000 drivers from its platform in 2023 as part of a major database cleanup effort.
This initiative will continue this year, with the implementation of a driver score system to maintain quality standards. The driver score evaluates performance by monitoring how often drivers accept ride requests, complete trips, and respond to passenger feedback, effectively rating drivers based on their performance over their last 100 trips.
