The Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Theresa Diai, yesterday, reviewed 215 of the 244 cases of inmates, which are pending at various courts, but none was released or granted bail.
 Â
Diai made this known in Kwale while speaking to journalists shortly after visiting the Kwale Correctional Centre.
Â
She explained that the reviews were due to the conclusion of some of the matters in court, commending all stakeholders for their efforts, particularly the office of the DPP.
Â
According to her, without the input of the DPP’s office, the trial of the cases would not move so swiftly at the courts.
Â
The State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, however, advised youths to abstain from crimes for their good.
Â
Erebe advised them to live upright lives, avoiding actions that may lead them to be inmates of a correctional centre.
Â
Commenting on the Chief Judge’s prison visit exercise, the Solicitor-General praised the painstaking and diligent manner with which the Chief Judge reviewed the individual cases of the inmates. Â
Â
He said that he was also impressed with the staff of the ministry for their diligence in ensuring that witnesses were brought to court to give evidence. Erebe stated that the staff of the ministry gave a good account of themselves during the exercise. Â
He stated that most of the cases had reached the judgment stage, adding that it was an indication that the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022 was working in the state.Â
Â
The Solicitor-General also applauded other stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice for their commitment to ensuring the success of the exercise.Â
