A man suspected to be mentally unstable reportedly killed his mother with an axe, set her body on fire and made away with her car.
This was disclosed by spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Odafe, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday.
Edafe, who did not give the name of the suspect and location where the incident happened, questioned the reason why parents keep children suspected to be mentally disturbed at home.
“So this young man of 25 years allegedly killed his mum with an axe and set her body ablaze, then made away with her Sienna vehicle,” he wrote on his handle.
“Rumour has it that the suspect might be mentally deraigned. Well, that’s for the court and medical doctors to determine. However, Why keep a child who has a mental issue at home instead of a psychiatric home?
“Oftentimes these mentally deraigned children end up killing their parents and the people who have been pampering and taking care of them.”
In July, 2024, a man, identified as Samson, was arrested by operatives of the Delta State police for stabbing his mother to death in Obiaruku, Delta State.
According to reports, the 25-year-old was initially sent to Asaba, to learn a trade after his secondary school, but was sent back a few months later after joining a group of boys allegedly involved in drugs, which affected his brain.
It was learned that he was brought back to Obiaruku, where his mother took him to a mental health facility for treatment.
