Devin Haney comments on Prograis retirement talk | Boxing News

AFTER losing to Jack Catterall in Manchester last weekend, former two-time world champion Regis Prograis hinted at possible retirement or even a move into the world of bareknuckle boxing.

Emotional retirement announcements after 12 rounds of heated warfare are always to be taken with a pinch of salt, even when the loser is 35 years old and clearly showing signs of wear and tear compared to past premium versions.

And so it seems that Prograis is now considering another crack at the hurt game after tweeting out, “No I’m not retiring. I will be a champion again #rougarou”. The message was met with mixed responses, but Prograis’ former conqueror, Devin Haney, was unequivocal in his thoughts on the matter.

In December 2023, Haney stepped up to super-lightweight to forcibly remove Prograis’ WBC title from the New Orleans man’s grasp.  It was a difficult evening that included a knockdown and shutout victory on the cards.

Prograis returned to the fold last Saturday, giving Catterall a good workout on the road to world-class in their rescheduled Co-op clash. At the end, it did feel like a swansong display for Prograis, but perhaps he will give it another crack after all.
