This Saturday will see the much-anticipated ‘5v5’ card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Billed as Matchroom vs Queensbury as a result of the bitter rivalry between promoters Eddie Hearn, who heads Team Matchroom, and Frank Warren, who leads Team Queensbury. In a recent interview with IFL, Hearn and Warren tell of plans to make more ‘5v5’ cards, and the possible locations of them.
The match-ups this Saturday are:
- Deontay Wilder (43-3-1) vs Zhilei Zhang (26-2-1)
- Filip Hrgovic (17-0) vs Daniel DuBois (20-2)
- Raymond Ford (15-0-1) vs Nick Ball (19-0-1) (for Ford’s WBA World Featherweight belt)
- Ammo Williams (16-0) vs Hamzah Sheeraz (19-0)
- Craig Richards (18-3-1) vs Willy Hutchinson (17-1)
- Dmitry Bivol (22-0) vs Malik Zinad (22-0) (for Bivol’s IBO & WBA Light Heavyweight belts)
The event was originally scheduled as the undercard for Dmitry Bivol versus Artur Beterbiev, but after Beterbiev withdrew with injury, Bivol instead took a fight with Malik Zanid.
The card is available on DAZN PPV.
Eddie Hearn Confirms MORE 5v5 Cards
In the interview, when asked about the card, Eddie Hearn says, ‘Off the back of Saturday we want to be in a position where this event is so good we’ve already got the next one locked in’.
He goes on to say, ‘I’d love to do one in the UK, we’ve got fifteen fights to make not just five’.
Eddie Hearn suggests possible locations for the next 5v5 card, which would entail ‘all different levels’ and could ‘fill up the O2 Manchester’ or ‘could be an unbelievable night in York Hall’.
The pair even joke with the interviewer, Kugan Cassius, about a tag team ‘against Arum and De La Hoya’.
It remains to be seen how much of a success Saturday night’s card will be, though with a recently confirmed Riyadh Season Bonus prize for the winning team, it is sure to be an exciting night of boxing.
